Hi Everyone,

Thanks for joining NatureLink Perth! Week 2! We will be providing weekly updates of what’s happening as well additional posts on specific topics.

Actions you can take are highlighted by a

WEEK 2

  1. Really enjoyed Boorna Waanginy at Kings Park for the Perth Festival. Hope you made it! With 110, 000 people visiting in the first two nights it has done wonders for getting the message out there. The lanterns made by school children were exquisite.
  2. On Sunday, the Boorna Waanginy had a symposium: Ruminations on Country which was a full house! With a suite of Indigenous Elders and the creators of Boorna Waanginy on stage, there were some great messages about reconciliation, connecting to country and how indigenous knowledge and western science and arts can work together to a great outcome. Lots of ideas that we took on board for NatureLink Perth. Three words sum it up for NatureLink Perth

Boodja (Country)

Moort (Family but extended family)

Kaartdijin (Knowledge but Dr Richard Walley said really means “learning by walking”)

But I thought also Koort (heart) – we need to care.

3. This week it was sad to hear of the clearing of the Lemnos St Bushland. We met with Heidi Hardisty and Lyn Jennings from Bush not Bricks. We spoke about the need for (and more ideas about promoting) the Kings Park to the Ocean Corridor. It really needs a name. Once something has a name it exists. If you are interested in the Kings Park to the Ocean Corridor concept and being part of it, contact Margaret Owen at the Friends of Underwood Ave Bushland at goffmarg@bigpond.net.au

4. This week has been mostly about getting the framework for NatureLink Perth set up – behind the scenes stuff, not so exciting but necessary. We now have our students enrolled and in a week or so the space should really start happening. It may take a while to gain momentum so please be patient – it will be worth it in the end!

It will grow faster if you contribute – email us any information you have, people you think we should contact or activities that are happening – that you think NatureLink Perth should know about.

If you would like to follow up on the Boorny Waanginy message the wonderful resources are still available including Ground Beneath Our Feet community resources and Seeds of Change schools’ projects.

Cheers,

Jane and the NatureLink Perth team
